2012 Florence Scholarship Awarded to Ludovica D’Amico

The fourth annual scholarship sponsored by Context Foundation for Sustainable Travel and Arti Orafe School was awarded to Ludovica D’Amico on July 1, 2012.

The announcement was made on June 21, during the end of year exhibition held at Arti Orafe School in Borgo Santo Spirito, Florence.

Ludovica was selected among a group of 8 students who had spent between 6 and 12 months at Arti Orafe attending courses on jewellery making and design. They all showed excellent skills and great potentials which made taking a decision as tough as ever.

The criteria adopted by the panel to mark the students’ work and potentials were:

1. quality of work (skills, ideas, process, design)
2. originality of work and innovation of ideas conveyed
3. attachment to place
4. potentials

Ludovica (22) spent six months at Arti Orafe. She is very young and prior to starting the School she was studying foreign languages. She is from Rome and she decided to move to Florence to give herself a chance to learn what she feels she has always had a passion for. Her work reflects the fact that she has had only 6 months to learn techniques but all of us were impressed by her original ideas and the process from idea to final artifact. Simone Fiordalisi especially was impressed, by her “organic” approach and the inspiration drawn from natural shapes and designs.
